The Matanuska Susitna Valley is
surrounded with views of the Chugach and Talkeetna mountains. Palmer and Wasilla are located
in South Central Alaska, along the Parks highway and are within driving distance to Anchorage. Wasilla combines the charming character of a small town with conveniences typically only available in an urban setting. Palmer and Wasilla homes still have that feel of a small town while still providing affordable housing not found in Anchorage.
With the average price of Anchorage homes at $316,00 compared to $209,00 for Wasilla homes the savings is easy to see. If you prefer a more easy laid back life style, affordable housing, with Alaska's wildlife not just at the back door but in your yard, then Wasilla may just be the new hometown you are searching for.
The Mat-Su Valley has many
recreational activities to keep you busy year round. In the summer,
there is plenty of fising, with lake trout, king salmon, red salmon and
silvers, there are many lakes for swimming and boating, gold panning,
and many trails for four wheeling, hiking, and biking.
If you are a gardener this could be paradise for you, as the Mat-Su
Valley is know for the large vegetables grown here. The moose love those veggies too!
In the fall there is plenty hunting, fishing, berry picking and the Alaska
State Fair where there is plenty of competition for the biggest vegetables grown during the season. Wasilla is central to just about everything in the Valley. As winter storms move in we have Hatcher's Pass where there is
plenty of snow, for snow boarding, skiing, ice skating, ice climbing, hockey and snow
machining.
Wasilla is packed with interesting history from the gold rush days the
Iditarod, and more. Some interesting museums to visit are, the Dorothy Page Museum, located in Wasilla, the Museum of Alaska Transportation, located near the Wasilla airport and
Wasilla is approximately 40 miles north west from Anchorage, is the home of the
Iditarod,
and minutes from Big Lake, where the Tesoro Iron Dog race
begins, which is a 1000 mile snow machine race through the rugged and
beautiful Alaskan terrain.
Among being the shopping center for the Valley, Wasilla is close to many other activities, such as festivals, a
performing arts center, library, churches, a new hospital and many
volunteer opportunities to keep you active.
The opportunities are endless. Move to your Wasilla home and let your
dreams run wild!
